Ruth Stalford is a native New Yorker who relocated to Los Angeles 25 years ago to pursue acting and producing. She currently resides in Hancock Park with her husband and son.

Ruth’s passion for volunteering started many years ago, as she volunteered with organizations in her free time supporting at-risk youth. In 2002 her philanthropic efforts evolved into a more formal role, when she started What A Pair with two close friends. What A Pair was an evening of Broadway Duets to benefit Breast Cancer research. From 2002-2014 the organization raised more than $3M.

In 2014, Ruth noticed a need in the literacy space. Ruth created The Book Foundation to put brand new, high-interest books in the hands of at-risk youth. She also partnered with other organizations to provide literacy programming, and to ensure that no one was duplicating efforts. Since its inception The Book Foundation has given away more than 20,000 books to the most vulnerable children in Los Angeles. This has become Ruth’s fulltime job and her life’s passion.

Ruth, who is mom to a ten-year old son, is thrilled to have found a calling that enables her to have flexible hours, and one in which she can involve her son. While many of the events do take place on the weekend, her family often participates with her. For Ruth, leaving a social footprint that she passes along to her son has been the most fulfilling part of her journey.
